I am dyinggggggggg I am at the last part rn and the spike cube-thingys are so annoying (Edit: I'm still at the spikes before this message I was trying for hours. I'm still trying but god damn it's really annoying)
I'm awful at platformers but I'm so glad i stuck this one out (ending with 32 mins and 117 deaths) as the art is super cute and the controls were very tight! The end was super difficult for me but the little "I did it!" was so rewarding :)
Fun game! Got the Pinwheels and went back to start and noticed the candles were lit, but was not sure what the next step was for 100%. Reading comments it seems like that's it.
I got 3:35, which is world record as far as I know. It's a really sloppy run with a couple deaths, but it's good enough considering this only took ~20 attempts.
First, the triple jump: by rejumping really quickly after jumping once, you do another regular jump, from witch point you can go higher than usual by doing an actual double jump.
Only thing is, if I spam fast enough, it seems i can go arbitrarily high, but it's way too inconsistant for me to do anything useful with it or figure anything out about it.
Second: the glitchy walljump (named after the glitchy wallkick in Super Mario 64 which has got a similar effect). I seems that, sometimes, when walljumping while going off a wall (say by holding the other direction or simply reaching the height of the celling below), you can walljump without the opposite momentum that normally comes with a walljump. This can save a surprising amount of time when skipping the section to activate the giant windmill. I would know since I've done it accidentally on a couple of occasions.
My best guess is that you can still walljump one physics frame after going off a wall, but the game doesn't see any wall to send you backwards from, so it just doesn't.
Bonus observation: it's possible to slide off a wall without being in contact with it by holding the opposite direction for juuussstt the right amount of time. However, walljumping from this state sends you back like normal.
Finally, backwards stair climbing: with the sliding walljump, it's just barely possible to climb upside down stairs, which you could potentially use to skip the oscillating platform, saving heaps of time.
I've not done this yet as it is incredibly difficult, but i'm trying.
I knew about all of these except for the triple jump, which I'll look into since I can get it somewhat consistent. I don't think that any of these are what the developer used though, since they are so hard. After playing through the game again I didn't find any new skips, but I'll keep trying to find them
Also, should we set up a discord for this game? I don't want to clutter the comments of this game with speedrun talk.
What a fantastic run. You are better at this game than me, and I made the thing. I knew about a majority of the skips you used but it somehow took me quite by surprise that you just flew over the section in the cave. I never thought about that funnily enough. It's also great to see how much use you make of the sliding wall jump. Congrats on your time.
Do you plan on optimizing the run even further or are you satisfied for now ?
Also, I plan on optimizing this further. By skipping the cave entirely (6:55) and cleaning up the run, I think a sub-3 is juuuussssttt about possible. I'm not sure if i'm the one who's going to take it there, but the future looks bright.
Edit: looks like i found a much easier way to do it
It's quite late now, i'll pick back up the grind tomorrow with the new strat.
Hey, i love speedrunning this! can i ask for quality of life, that pressing 'F' enters full-screen mode (opposite of 'esc')? Also, a way to skip having to read the text at the beginning would be nice
This game made my day. I loved everything about it, the music, the sprites (although a few are junky), and even the learning curve felt great. Also, the game is very speedrunable for anyone who might try and i had a lot of fun finding all 5 small windmills in the game. Hell, there might even be a sixth, i don't know.
really cool, but right near the end it's super frustrating to understand what I'm supposed to do, and I don't have the energy to restart back at the "I'm almost at the top" part every time I slightly mess up. I won't finish the game because of this :/
sure, there are two very obvious ones at the start and the end of the game and two pinwheels at the most left side of de screen and the right. These ones can both be reached by gliding from the top of the tower.
The last one is in a cave above the house and can be accessed by jumping from the wooden platform above where you need to activate the pinwheel with the upwind.
BRO THIS GAME IS FIRE OMGGG I LOVE HOW ITS KINDA OPEN WORLD BUT UM THAT LSAT PART TOOK ME MAYBE 50 TRIES U REALLY DIDNT GO EASY ON ME ANYWAYS FIRE GAME
When it got dark I thought my battery was running low😂 Great game, I love it. Autumn is my favorite season, so that made the game better for me! Hope you make similar games in the future, because you really have a knack for making cozy games. Just followed you :D
You've created a beautiful little game here, I definitly enjoyed playing it and it definitly earned that first place. Didn't realize that the pinwheels are connected to the candles in your house, I wondered at the end if there were more, even made a video on my playthrough. A little bit of critique would be that you stick to walls a little bit too good, but that's my personal taste and other people might love the implementation. Overall I can only say congratulations on such a great job.
Loved this! Congrats on making a fun-to-play character in such a short time. I also enjoyed the extra love put into the animations such as the spin on the double-jump. Nice exploration of mechanics too! that last bit was a beast.
What a beautiful little game! I liked the little guy's skill set which you used well especially in the difficult parts! Catch wind - drop - repeat. And thanks for putting the respawn so close to the hazards.
What do the pinwheels do? There are two in plain sight: one at the beginning and another at the top of the tower, but I found two more! I just had to jump off the tower and float as far each way as I could go.
There is one on the far right cliff and one on the far left cliff. I activated all four but nothing happened. Do you have to activate the three lower ones BEFORE you get the tower pinwheel? Or are they just for fun?
Also, there seems to be a cave in the cliff above your starting house. I can't float to it even starting from the tower. Is that anything?
I really enjoyed your game and would love to play more! I also agree that the day and night cycle was a lovely touch! :)

That was fun, little difficult at the floating part, but that's alright
I found 5 pinwheels. Two on the left, one at the bottom, one on the right, and one at the top.

Thank you.
And Congrats on sticking through to the end.
Controls are tight and responsive, very nice!!!
Clicked here at random, and wow, this made my day !
Great litle music, level disign and game feel realy well done,
so cute graphics, collection and speedrun content.
a "Bang" that has frustrated me (in the good way) for the last part of the tower !
This game is realy cool , great job !!!
Thank you so much :D

jup getting the candles is all you need for 100% for now.

If I decide to improve this I might try and get the game on speedrun.com
This might be a problem
just link the itch.io page lol, the game doesn't need a wikipedia article
Congrats, dude!
I just tried to do a speedrun myself including all the skips you guys found (and some you didn't find) just for fun to see how I could do.
Which skips didn't we find? Also GG on the sub-4!
I think it would be more fun if I didn't tell you since that would be unfair since I'm the developer.
But if you insist, I can give you a hint.
I don't think it would be unfair at all. I'd like a hint if you won't tell
I have an inkling of what you're talking about.

This game is incredibly broken, please don't fix it, details soon.
Edit: as promised:

First off, thank you!

Oh I think sub 3 is absolutely possible considering there are still some skips and tech you haven't figured out yet ;)
Hey, i love speedrunning this! can i ask for quality of life, that pressing 'F' enters full-screen mode (opposite of 'esc')? Also, a way to skip having to read the text at the beginning would be nice
I just updated the game. I implemented all the features you asked for as well as a timer and death counter on top of that.
Also thank you for speedrunning the game. If you get a time you are happy with I would love to see the run :D
Thanks, that's awesome (: I didn't record it, but I managed to get Sub 5!!
I'll see if I can record myself or if it impacts the pc performance too much. <3
Thanks for the nice game. I have reach the top of the tower.
it feels like we should active The red windmills. does anyone know how many red windmills are in the game?
There are five of them. They aren't required though and only light up the candles in the house.
Thank you for playing :D
took me two days to finish but so glad i did this game is so adorable and fun
Thank you :D
Congrats

Thank you for making this!
Thank you :D
And yes you found all the windmills.
What happens if you infinitely blow all of them???
Edit: Gotem all, but still, wut happens?
Each one lights a candle in your home. Nothing special I know. just a little visual indicator you found them all.
ok
Never noticed, what a cute detail!
really cool, but right near the end it's super frustrating to understand what I'm supposed to do, and I don't have the energy to restart back at the "I'm almost at the top" part every time I slightly mess up. I won't finish the game because of this :/
Yes for real ! The check point is way too low to start each time. Frustrating and i will not finish the game!
I'm glad it's not just me!!! I really like the vibes of the game and wanted to reach the end, but I just couldn't do it :(
Hey I just pushed an update that adjust the ending a bit. It should be a lot more manageable now. Hope it helps.
omg!!! That's so cool, I'm glad, thank you
Buen juego
GREAT ATMOSPHERE. DEF A LITTLE CHALLENGING IN PLACES!
I absolutely love the sound design
Can Anyone help me find the final pinwheel please
sure, there are two very obvious ones at the start and the end of the game and two pinwheels at the most left side of de screen and the right. These ones can both be reached by gliding from the top of the tower.
The last one is in a cave above the house and can be accessed by jumping from the wooden platform above where you need to activate the pinwheel with the upwind.
Ooorrrrrr alternatively you could do a really overcomplicated and unnecessary maneuver to climb on the wall at the start.
Amazing game bro! 10/10 keep it up

Thank you so much :D
Very calming yet challenging. Great game!
So I found and spun five pinwheels in my travels. I guess that makes me a pinwheel enthusiast? (also I'm shouting???)
Congrats :D
this is so satisfying to play
checkpoint between the "I'm almost at the top." bit and the next wheel for the love of the tower omfg
i gave up after 1hr 30mins
I just pushed an update that makes the ending a bit easier. It is still a very long stretch but it should be a lot more manageable now.
Pleasant while also challenging. Great game.
so pretty and satisfying to play! the night is annoying though
I'm loving this but can't get past the long part where you have to float up through the vines :(
EDIT: I did it! I got to the end :)
Congrats :D

Great small adventure game, I love the gameplay and some parts are very challenging, nice !
Congratulations, you killed my last nerve cell with the last stage of the game)))
really cool, calming and nice.
I really am enjoying it.
Also congrats for winning the jam
Thank you :D
Glad you are enjoying it.

Thank you so much for the long comment.
There are 5 pinwheels in total and every one you activate lights a candle in your house. So yeah, it's just for fun.
Thank you for playing :D
Must... light... all the... candles! xD
Update: WOO-HOO!!!
yooooo
Good job, well done
Pretty challenging game. I love how you use windmills mechanic. Also nice visual and music
Really great quality platformer and gorgeous art.
I seem to be stuck. Is there a way to make the really long jump to the right?
Should be possible, Jump to the right, activate the leaf and double jump out of it.
Alternatively you can also go around the other side.
Nice game!
great!
I've never seen a platformer with a day/night cycle before! Very cool!
