burst jump , cover art and polish


Progress was very slow in the last few weeks , but there are some things to talk about . 

So I mainly just cleaned up the code to make it faster to work with and implement more features more efficiently , but I also completely remade the super jump because there were some problems with it that I wasn't sure how to solve. When implementing the upgrade system I added the stamina meter in place of the jumps from back in the game jam entry . That was because I didn't like the fact that you had to watch how many jumps you had left , so I made it a bit simpler but it still didn't felt right , so after some thinking I came up with the burst jump. 

It is basically a jetpack that explodes when you let go of the button and catapults you in the air . This is way easier to balance because the jetpack is very slow and uses a lot of energy, so it is way less exploitable , but it also adds a lot more depth to the jump , because now you have to decide if you just want to double jump or if you want to fly up first and risk to mess up the timing for the burst. 

The move still needs some polishing and juice , but it is almost done .

I also made the final cover art for the game . I wanted to capture the feeling I want to go for in the game . It feels isolated but also colorful and dreamlike. I'm pretty proud of the result but if there is anything you would like to see change just write a comment. 


This was the biggest piece of pixel art I have ever done , so naturally it took me a few tries to get it right.

I'm currently working on polishing up the burst jump and a few other minor details like an idea that got suggested to me on reddit , namely to add metal parts after killing an enemy to make it feel better to kill enemies. Also I will tweak the damage numbers a bit.
